The eye!
On Wednesday 6th grade got to watch ms.d dissect a sheeps eye. While we were watching our teacher dissect, we saw the different parts of the eye, for example, we saw the lens, the vitreous, the optic nerve, and so on. It was interesting watching the eye being disected, the part that I saw, and it was very educational. As you can see above this is a diagram of the eye.
Cornea - the clear, dome-shaped tissue covering the front of the eye.
Iris - the colored part of the eye - it controls the amount of light that enters the eye by changing the size of the pupil
Lens - a crystalline structure located just behind the iris - it focuses light onto the retina
Optic nerve - the nerve that transmits electrical impulses from the retina to the brain
Pupil - the opening in the center of the iris- it changes size as the amount of light changes (the more light, the smaller the hole)
Retina - sensory tissue that lines the back of the eye. It contains millions of photoreceptors (rods and cones) that convert light rays into electrical impulses that are relayed to the brain via the optic nerve
Vitreous - a thick, transparent liquid that fills the center of the eye - it is mostly water and gives the eye its form and shape (also called the vitreous humor)
The eye is a definitively amazing organ and without it we would not be able to see, or to have a visible sense of direction.
I hope you liked my scribe!
6th grade, for homework we need to finish our lab, due on friday! Remember that tomorrow, Thursday, we are welcome to come in during lunch for a study session about the EMS, the light vocabulary, the parts of the eye and the differences between mirrors, prisms and lenses! Be sure to come in!
Have a great day!

It didn't exactly turn out the way I wanted it to, but I hope you like it.
ReplyDeleteHi Courtney!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your scribe post! There was a lot of information about what happened during class. I also liked that you wrote the vocabularies and their definitions. It definitely helped me in understanding what you did during science class. I was glad to learn about the eye because I did not learn about the eye during 6th grade. Although next time you might not want to write your scribe slanted. There were times when it was hard for me to read. Besides that I thought everything looked very good.
Good work Courtney. You have listed the right amount of information in you scribe post however I think you should have included a link to a youtube video or something similar to make this even better and one last quick think, you title is little bit to colorful and hard to read so I suggest that you change it. Otherwise good work, Gregor.
ReplyDeleteNice post Courtney, you have explained what you have done in class really well, so anyone who reads the post can understand what you are talking about. I am not sure if a sheep's eye is the same as a human's eye, so you could add that information for stupid people like me.Also, maybe try not to use unnecessary colors. It's not really hard to read them, but as I said, they're unnecessary, and this is science ;)
ReplyDeleteFinally, I mustn't forget to say, that overall you have done a good job.
Great Job Courtney! I really liked your post, it gave everyone a chance to learn some of the words we have been learning and helped for studying. Also the diagram helped a lot as to explaining the parts of the eye once more. Next time however i would recommend changing the colors of the vocabulary words such as Iris, Pupil,Lens etc.. a to the color black so it stands out more. I have found two great websites which could help people who weren't there see how the eye looked and parts of the eye. There is info on this page which explains it, but there is no need to read it, just the picture and the first paragragh.

I also found another picture of a side view of a sheep's eye which showed everything we saw.

Anyway fantastic post

Thank you soooo much everybody for reading it and then commenting. I like your comments and next time I will try to improve my post by including these details. If you have any more suggestions please feel free to do so. Once again, thanks!

Great job Courtney. I like your post and the colours that you use. I like the picture that you use. I like that because it shows all the parts of the eye. In your post you describe all the things that you did in class. You explain all the parts of the eye and this is good.
ReplyDeleteDavide.
Good job Courtney. I like how you included a picture, good colors, and had the vocab word definitions. I liked that you told the homework because I needed it. The picture helped me on the test, and so did the definitions. I think you could have included more of your opinion on the dissection and maybe even added a bit on the classes reaction to the dissection. I've found a website that gives the parts of the eye and quizes you on if you can label each part. I know that some of the labels we haven't learned, but here it is: http://homes.bio.psu.edu/people/faculty/strauss/anatomy/nerv/dissectedeye.htm. Another great website I found lets you dissect a virtual eye. It's really fun and I hope you enjoy it. Here it is: http://www.eschoolonline.com/company/examples/eye/eyedissect.html

Hey Court,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your post as it was quite readable, clear, and organized.
I used my "eyes" to take note on the colors you made great use of, as they made your scribe post awfully explicit. The diagram you used to demonstrate the eye was too, quite helpful giving me a small insight on what you guys are currently studying. Another awesome observation I made while reading your scribe post was that you included a very important part of making your scribe and that was including a vast amount of science. For the future, however, I suggest you review your post, as there was some slight mistakes in spell check. Otherwise, fantastic job!

Courtney - I enjoyed reading your post and the opening picture of the diagram of the eye was helpful. I think you could have had some more pictures throughout the post, especially about the dissection. Your use of color is helpful, but in places it needs to differentiate a bit more (words from definitions, last two paragraphs). Links would have helped the reader understand even more of the science. Good job reminding the class about the study session and what to study for the quiz. Overall, nice work on your first Scribe POst! - Ms. D.
ReplyDeleteHi Courtney,
ReplyDeleteI really liked the colors, the eye diagram, the list of words and the reminder of the study hall at lunch. Next time be more carfull whit the grammar. Also when you were saying the parts of the eye, I would write all of them, or none at all.
This is a very nice website: http://www.exploratorium.edu/learning_studio/cow_eye/step01.html

Nice Job Courtney!! I thought it was clever of you to put the words and their meening, so we could study. I also think it was nice that you remebered us about the lunch session. I though also think that you should have added more about what happened during the eye disction and about the parts we saw. I also think you should have added a bit more information all toghether. But exept for that I really liked the colors you put and the picture was perfect, even though you should have put other pictures, that explained perfectly.

Hi Courtney, I really like your scribepost. You have included numerors things that I liked. But you should add more scientific facts, because I think the definitoions are not enough. I think next time you will do better.

HEY COURTNEY,
ReplyDeleteI really did like the post but some things you could do to improve it for next time are...
You could have talked about how we all got to touch the eye(only if we wanted to).
You could have mentioned that we all did a sheet along with it (that i personally did not enjoy)
Then you could have explained the different things that were in the set and the things Ms. D used to disect the sheep eye.
Last but difinitley not least you could have mentioned that we got the eye from an oversized sheep(maybe it ate to much grass).
Other than that ...
You did a pretty good job
