Our homework due today was to find the definitions of the words ray-concave lens. If somebody didn't get all the words then here they are.
Ray: Straight lines of light waves (shown as an arrow)
Regular Reflection: When parallel waves of light hit a flat surface
Diffuse Reflection: When parallel waves of light hit a bumpy surface
Plane Mirror: A flat sheet of glass with a smooth, silvercolored coating on one side
Image: A copy of an object formed by reflected or refracted rays of light
Virtual Image: Upright image that forms where light seems to come from (see in place mirror)
Concave Mirror: Mirror with a flat surface that curves inward
Convex Mirror: Mirror with a flat surface that curves outward
Focal Point: The point which rays parallel to the optical axis meet
Mirage: An image of a distant object caused by the refraction of light.
Lens: A curved piece of glass or other transparent material that is used to refract light.
Convex Lens: A lens that is thicker in the center than at the edges.
Concave Lens: A lens that is thinner in the center than at the edges.
At the end of class, Ms.D gave us all a lab handout that we're going to work on on Monday. It is our homework to read it so that we have an idea of what to do on monday with our 11 o'clock partners. The lab is called Light Behaviors, and we're going to be playing with Mirrors, Lenses, and Prisms.
Next scribe is (drum roll): Lara
The post didn't come out exactly as I made it.

Hey Nathan!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your scribe post. I think it is good that you put all the vocabulary to study in 6th grade. Maybe instead of just saying what you did in one specific day (even if I liked how you did it) you could have also said what you guys are working on. I liked the picture of the glasses you're using and the description of how they work. Overall, though, very nice scribe post.

Nate - this is amazing! It is your first post ever and you made it very clear. You could have made the words that you got definitions for a bit bigger or bold. The picture of the glasses looks great - but you could have chosen a picture without "www.SteveSpanglerScience.com" in the background.
ReplyDeleteHey Nate! Nice scribe post! I like the picture and the colors you used! Next time, though, I would try to include what we were working on like telling us what was done in class. Nice 1st scribe and keep up the good work!

Hi Nate
ReplyDeleteI really liked the way you wrote your post out. The colors were cool and the picture of the glasses. You could have said what the glasses were for and why you used them in your science class. The definitions of the words were nice to put, but you could have put the definition of the word prism because I did not know the definition. It was cool that you put the time on the clock though you might want to explain what the clock is. Overall your blog post was very cool.
Noam
Good job,Nate! I like your post. I like the picture of 3D glasses. It's very interesting and colourful. Because of the colours, it is easier to read. I like that you made definitions. That is how everyone can check their homework. I think that you wrote everything you did in class.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Davide (major edit)
Great work Nate. You used excellent colors and the picture is also very effective. You have enough information. I'm also sure that anyone that reads your post will understand, even if they weren't in class.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that could have improved your blog, is to include links to helpful websites, such as;
http://www.webexhibits.org/colorart/bh.html
This website gives us some of the history behind the story of light & prisms. Take a look.
Nice work!

Nathan - I enjoyed reading your post. There were no spelling and grammar mistakes, plus your sentence structure looks good. I do think you could have included some more pictures about this topic and a link or two to helpful sites or videos. Great coverage of the vocabulary we covered and nice use of color. Be careful with your spacing and be sure to preview your post before publishing. Overall, nice first Scribe post! Ms. D.
